ICELAND SKI TOURING
Ski above the Arctic Ocean, climb through vast mountain landscapes and soak in geothermal waters beneath the northern sky. Iceland’s Troll Peninsula brings together extraordinary ski touring, spectacular coastal scenery and the warm welcome of a remote mountain lodge.
This is a place to slow down on the climb and take it all in. Snow-covered peaks rise above deep blue fjords, ridgelines stretch into the distance, and the ocean appears around the next shoulder of the mountain. Then the skins come off, the bindings click into place, and it’s time to ski.
With descents of up to 1,500 metres and routes that can lead towards the shoreline, North Iceland offers something remarkable: the chance to earn your turns in a landscape where the mountains meet the sea.

Ski ability and safety
This trip is suitable for intermediate backcountry skiers with previous touring experience, confidence skiing off-piste in variable snow, and the fitness for consecutive days in the mountains.
Your guide will choose routes to suit the group, weather and snow conditions. The first morning includes an equipment check and safety briefing before heading into the mountains.
Bring touring skis or a splitboard, skins and avalanche safety equipment. Equipment hire is available at an additional cost and should be arranged before travelling.
Terrain and Location
Just south of the Arctic Circle, the Troll Peninsula — Tröllaskagi — reaches out between the fjords of North Iceland. It’s a striking corner of the country, where small fishing communities sit beneath steep mountains and quiet valleys open towards the ocean.
Our base is Sóti Lodge in Fljót, close to the colourful fishing town of Siglufjörður. Mountains surround the lodge, putting a wealth of touring terrain within easy reach.
Each day brings a fresh perspective: a steady climb through a peaceful valley, a ridge revealing another sweep of coastline, or a descent with the Arctic Ocean filling the view ahead. There’s time to enjoy the journey, share a mountain lunch and appreciate just how far from everyday life you’ve travelled.
For skiers who love exploring under their own steam, this is a special place. The climbs are part of the experience, the views give you every reason to pause, and the descents are all the more rewarding for having earned them.
Weather and Snow conditions
Iceland’s coastal setting makes every mountain day different. Your guide will assess the forecast and snow conditions each morning, choosing routes and timings to make the most of what’s available.
Come ready for changing weather and varied snow. Flexibility is part of the adventure, with each day shaped around the mountains and the group.

Premium lodge and geothermal soaks
Our base is Sóti Lodge, a welcoming country hotel surrounded by the mountains of the Troll Peninsula.
With just seven rooms accommodating up to 15 guests, it’s an intimate place to settle into mountain life. Every room has a private bathroom and shower, while the lounge and dining area look out across the surrounding landscape.
After touring, head next door to Barðslaug geothermal pool for a restorative soak. Pool access is included, with a hot tub and sauna to help ease tired legs before dinner.
Comfort, local hospitality and a close connection to the surrounding community are all part of the stay.
