Cat Ski Albania: Deep Lines in the Cursed Frontier
Tucked away in one of Europe’s last true frontiers, this is Cat skiing stripped back to its rawest form. No lifts, no crowds — just a snowcat, a tight crew, and endless untouched terrain deep in the Albanian Alps. Welcome to the Accursed Mountains — wild, remote, and anything but cursed.

Albania Cat Skiing – Deep Lines, Lost Legends & Powder Realms of the Accursed Mountains
Welcome to a cat skiing adventure like no other — wild, remote, and completely untouched. Tucked away in northern Albania’s Accursed Mountains (yes, that’s really what they’re called), this trip takes you deep into one of the most unexplored winter regions in Europe. With sweeping ridgelines, deep bowls, and not a soul in sight, the terrain here delivers both freedom and challenge.Operating from a remote plateau on the Kosovo border, this is cat skiing off the grid — where the mountains do the talking and the only tracks you’ll see are your own. Hosted by Powder Mad, guided by local pros, and supported by dedicated snowcats, you’ll spend six full days riding wild terrain, sleeping in mountain guesthouses, and living the good life in a place few skiers have ever seen.

Ski ability and safety
This trip is for adventurous riders with solid off-piste experience. You don’t need to be a pro, but you do need to be confident in deep snow, comfortable with changing snow conditions, and able to handle a mix of terrain. The Accursed Mountains can throw it all at you — cold smoke powder, wind-affected ridgelines, playful gullies, and everything in between. We ride everything from mellow bowls to steep, technical lines, depending on the conditions and the group.
Safety is our top priority. You’ll be guided by fully certified professionals trained in avalanche rescue and mountain safety. Every rider is provided with a transceiver, shovel, probe and avalanche airbag, and avalanche safety training is delivered on Day 1 before heading into the backcountry.
Terrain and Location
We operate in the heart of the Accursed Mountains, also known as the Albanian Alps — one of the most rugged and surprisingly glaciated regions in Europe. This landscape is one of the most remote and wild corners of the Balkans, offering a true sense of isolation and adventure without the crowds. Our base is Doberdol, a hidden plateau on the Kosovo border, surrounded by jagged ridgelines, alpine bowls, and dramatic limestone features.
The ski zone forms a natural horseshoe-shaped basin, offering over 7km² of terrain with peaks rising up to 2600m. With no other operations nearby, this entire backcountry playground is yours — from smooth plateaus and mellow drops to steep, technical descents off the surrounding ridges. And if conditions line up, we can even make a push to Gjeravica, Kosovo’s second-highest peak.
Weather and Snow conditions
Thanks to its altitude and alpine topography, Doberdol receives dry, consistent snow throughout the winter. Cold air sweeps in from the northeast and northwest, funnelling through the valleys and colliding with moist air masses rising from the Adriatic Sea. This clash creates ideal conditions for snowfall, especially as storms wrap around the Dinaric Alps, dropping their payload on the sharp limestone ridges of the Accursed Mountains.
The terrain itself helps hold the snow. Glaciated valleys, steep karst walls, and high cirques trap cold air, preserving powder for days after each storm. The limestone ground structure drains moisture quickly, which helps keep the snow light and dry. Since this zone was inaccessible in winter until recently, the slopes remain untouched — and the snow is exactly how you want it: deep, stable, and barely ridden.

Food & Lodgings
This trip balances high-mountain adventure with warm, simple hospitality. You’ll stay 2 nights at Hostel Bora in Peja, and 5 nights at Guesthouse Leonard in Doberdol — a mountain lodge nestled right in the ski zone.
Expect hearty Albanian meals made with local ingredients: warming stews, grilled meats, vegetables, fresh bread, and strong mountain tea. Dinners are communal, breakfasts are big, and you’ll take a lunchbox with you in the cat each day.
Rooms are shared twin setups, kept warm and cosy. This is rustic, real, and right where the snow is.
Single supplement rooms are possible
